They may be a little grayer and move a little slower, but a senior cat is just as lovable as a zooming and mischievous kitten. There are many benefits a senior cat brings into your life, and adopting one will return the favor when all they want to do is enjoy their old age with dignity and unconditional love.
Right in line with kitten season, June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month. Originally started by the American Humane group, shelters and rescue groups have now adopted the name and call June: Adopt a Shelter Cat Month.
Designated by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the first full week of November is set aside to show our local shelters some love! There are approximately 3,500 animal shelters across the US and approximately 70 million homeless animals.
Oh, so you want to become a foster? Great Idea! I, myself, was rescued by a local TNR group and found my forever home in the face of my foster, who later on became my caring and loving human mom, Sherry. Every rescue group needs fosters in order to ready the kittens and cats for adoption. In lieu of a physical space or shelter, they rely on people who will foster us kitties who are deemed friendly and the kittens who are caught early enough to be socialized.
January 24th is National Change a Pet’s Life Day. This day is a big deal because there are so many ways you can do exactly that – change a pet’s life! We had two special holidays this week in the cat rescue community! January 23rd was World Spay Day and today, January 24th, is National Change a Pet’s Life Day.
Located in Port Washington, Long Island, New York since 1944, North Shore Animal League America (NSALA) is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. They are considered pioneers in no-kill and have helped other shelters and rescue groups around the country to adopt a no-kill position.
National Feral Cat Day recognizes the stray and feral cats who live among us. These cats have a tough life outside and will generally live only 4-8 years – only if they survive kittenhood.
